Jadeja, R. Parties to the award: a guide to the pedigrees and archival resources of federally registered trade
unions, employer associations and their peak councils in Australia 1904-1994, Canberra: Noel Butlin Archives
Centre, Research School of Social Sciences, The Australian National University, 1994
Parties to the Award was written in 1994 in response to the ‘super union’ amalgamations in the 1980s and 1990s. It documents the complex administrative and structural changes experienced by Australia’s federal industrial organisations throughout the 20th century. Its 42 pedigree charts and alphabetical directory track registration, name changes and amalgamations of federally registered trade unions, employer associations and their peak national and state councils from 1904 to 1994. The location of records available for research in archival institutions and the contact address of these institutions is also noted.
Copies can be ordered from the Noel Butlin Archives Centre at $5 per copy.
The guide is presently being updated, converted into electronic form and incorporated into a larger project of the Australian Trade Union Archive (ATUA) - an on-line specialist access point for researchers and scholars of labour and industrial history in Australia. ATUA will be released in January 2002.
