Reference Services - Introduction

Installation of the ANU's first Chancellor, Lord Bruce, 1952
If you intend visiting the University Archives to use University records, it
is essential that you first contact us to discuss
your query or research topic.
We will then determine if the records you are interested in exist and whether
the records are eligible for public release. If relevant records are available
for you to view, it may take several days for records to be retrieved and delivered
to the Reading Room, located in the facilities
shared by the University Archives and the Noel Butlin Archives Centre.
You can also begin your research by looking at the University Archives List
of Holdings. However, please note that the records appearing on the University
Archives List of Holdings are only those records which have been formally accessioned
by the Archives. You can also be granted access to records presently under the
jurisdiction of ANU - University Records, providing that access
accords with the Archives Act 1983 as determined by the University Archivist.
If relevant records do exist and they are designated 'open access', you will
need to contact the University
Archives to make an appointment to visit the archives. This will ensure
that the records are available for you to look at and an archivist is present
to assist you during your visit.
