Personal Papers

The personal papers of many of the prominent Australians involved in the early development of The Australian National University (ANU), as well as those of later contributors to research and teaching at ANU are held in various repositories. These include the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, the Australian Academy of Science and the Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide.

The ANU has not actively sought to acquire personal papers over the years, although some ANU academics deposited their papers with the Noel Butlin Archives Centre. Some of these collections have been transferred to the University Archives.

As of late 2001, the University Archives holds several small collections of personal papers of ANU academic and administrative staff. These collections complement the information held on official files and usually document aspects of the individual's involvement in research and teaching. Details of the collections are available from the University Archives.
